These are limited to first come first serve.

Please let me know if you are interested.

County nominations

We have been asked to nominate:
A uniformed representative to County Scout Council
A non-uniformed representative to County Scout Council

and anyone we would like to nominate for election to County Executive Committee (including an under 25 youth rep)

If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else please let me know ASAP (and before the 14th August). The district nominees will be expected to report back to the District after each meeting.

The County Scout Council is the elected body that supports Scouting in the County, and is the body to which the Executive Committee is responsible. In practice, it votes on matters integral to the governance of the County, eg nominations to the Executive Committee, proposed changes to the County Constitution, etc. Some people are ex-officio members of the Council, eg the District Commissioner and District Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, so do not need to be nominated by the District. Our Constitution allows every District to have an additional uniformed member and an additional lay member, so these are the two sets of details I need.

The County Executive Committee is the Trustee body of the County, and operates as the management body of the County in support of the County Commissioner. There are eight places available for nominated members, plus two Young Person places. If we receive more nominations than places are available, the County Scout Council will vote on the nominations and the Executive Committee places granted to the eight (two for YP) nominations receiving the greatest number of votes.
The County Executive Committee generally has four evening meetings each year, plus the County AGM. In addition, Executive Committee members will usually be appointed to an operational sub-committee (eg finance, personnel).

2015 Jamboree Unit Selection

The latest update on the 2015 Jamboree is now available on the County website at http://www.durhamscouts.org.uk/events/2015-world-scout-jamboree/

Having selected our leadership team from the County, we are now moving forward with selecting our 18 young people. I have attached an application form to this e-mail and a copy is also available for download from the County website at the URL above. We will also be publicising this via County Facebook groups and pages and would like your help to make sure that every eligible Scout or Explorer Scout gets to hear about the Jamboree and understands that they have the chance to apply.

*** No delays; don’t tell yourself that they won’t be interested; don’t tell yourself that the young people in your District can’t afford it; don’t listen when people tell you that ‘Jamboree is only for a select few’ ***

Please therefore circulate this e-mail to your Scouts and Explorer Scouts as appropriate.

Note the following key dates in the selection process:

·Open information evening for potential applicants to find out more about the Jamboree, ask any questions and meet previous Jamboree Unit members: 7.30pm – 9.00pm on Monday 9th September 2013 (Main Hall, Moor House Adventure Centre)

·Application submission deadline: Monday 23rd September 2013 (no late submissions will be accepted)

·Selection day (also to be held at Moor House): Sunday 6th October 2013 (details will be sent to all applicants)

·Those attending the selection day will be informed of the decision no later than Wednesday 9th October 2013.

Thanks for your help
