High Sheriff's Shrievalty Awards 2013

Dear Colleagues

I am again making contact to remind you all of the forthcoming High Sheriff’s Shrievalty Awards that are held each year in Durham Castle, with reference to an email that I sent to everyone before the Christmas break (20/11/2012).

Any suitable nominations must be received into this office no later than 22nd February 2013.

The awards ceremony is being held on Thursday 21st March 2013 at 11am in Durham Castle.

I am sure that there must be some worthwhile young people in your areas who warrant such a meritorious award for either facing personal hardships, helped to reduce crime in their community, performed courageous acts or helped other people in a number of ways. It is sad that we always seem to hear about these young people after the awards, if the information that I had sent earlier has been disseminated for other staff members to view maybe we might receive a better response throughout County Durham, Darlington and Stockton.

If anyone just happens at this stage have thought of a young person or persons who might be suitable for this award please do not hesitate to contact me by email at norma@daac.org.uk

I attach a nomination form in case the previous one has been misplaced.

or by telephone on 0191 3841425.

I look forward to your response.

Many thanks

Regards

Norma Cowen (Mrs)
Office Manager
Durham Agency Against Crime

I can supply the nomination form on request.

Committee meetings

Please can I remind Group Scout Leaders and Group Chairs that the District Commissioner and District Chairman (Jonathan Roberts) should be invited to every Group Executive Meeting - unfortunately it is unlikely we will be able to attend every meeting - but we should be invited anyway!

Ivan Huitson

I've just learned today of the sad passing of Ivan Huitson on 24th December aged 78 years. Ivan was formerly an ASL and SL of 1st Eppleton Scout Group in Houghton-le-Spring and was district commissioner of HLS from 1989 - 1999. In recent years, due to ailing health, Ivan held the roles of Group President at 1st Eppleton and Vice President of Houghton-le-Spring district. Ivan was formerly a very active county scouter and spent a great deal of time working at Moor House. He maintained a great friendship with John Lowerson, former DC and County Secretary. Ivan was a dedicated and committed scout who gave vast service to his group, district and county. Ivan's funeral will take place on Monday 7th January, 11.00am at Sunderland Crematorium. Family flowers only, donations in lieu if so desired to St Benedict's Hospice Ivan's obituary reads: 'Huitson (Hetton-Le-Hole) On December 24th aged 78 years, Ivan. The dearly loved husband of Ethel (nee Donkin).
