Durham City District
Coalburn Plantation Campsite is Durham City Scouts District Campsite,s located just south of Coalburns village, Tyne and Wear.
The site comprises of over 20 acres of semi mature woodland and is 30-40 minute drive from Durham City.
The woodland has a wide range of native trees and is a relatively long narrow strip - between 50m and 200m wide with a small stream down the middle; it's about 1km end to end. Vehicle access is off Horsegate Bank (NE40 4JP). Please make sure road access along Horsegate Bank is unimpeeded.

Site uses

The site ideallly lends its self to small Scout and Explorer camps, firelighting, backwards cooking, forestry skills, wide games, dig latrines, etc.
Site users may cut down brash and trees using traditional tools, burn dry branches, forrage for food, make and repair pathways, build dens, bivis and shelters.
Please do not climb the fences or stray onto neighboring farm land (except on the public rights of way). The site has a typical woodland floor - soft, squishy and much better suited to hike tents, bivis, tarps and hammocks rather than patrol and mess tents. There are lots of places you can camp - many of them are a walk from vehicle access. Please remember any users of chain saws on the site must meet Scout Association requirements (i.e. formally training).
